Spectrum Web Products Online Stores

These days it is more important than ever for retailers of all kinds to complement their traditional shop-based trade with an online store. After years of steady but unspectacular growth, online retail in the UK leapt from 19% to 33% of total sales between March and May 2020, and remains around the 30% mark. Deployed well, e-commerce can ensure customer retention and growth, improved efficiency and cost reduction.

Trading online is of course also a key feature of COVID-safe operation.

Your e-commerce website will need to be well-designed, inviting and easy to use, providing customers with a high-quality online service that they will want to use again, and will recommend to others.

There is legislation to be observed, such as GDPR /Data Protection and Sale of Goods requirements as they apply to e-commerce.

You'll need a secure online payment gateway.

And of course, you'll want access to reporting to help you manage inventory and track sales.

Your e-commerce checklist

These are the main points you'll need to consider when setting up in e-commerce:

  • A secure, reliable e-commerce system
  • Products, pricing, images and copy for your online catalogue
  • Order handling processes and resources
  • A secure payment gateway
  • List of accepted payment methods
  • Delivery options, geographical coverage and delivery rates
  • Sales Terms and Conditions
  • GDPR/Data Protection compliant processes

Since no two businesses are identical, your e-commerce solution will need to be configured to best suit the way you operate.

We've developed online stores for retailers and wholesalers in various sectors including fresh food, bathroom fixtures and fittings and automotive parts. We can advise you on the various options available when setting up your online store.

E-commerce Case Study

Coates Online Store

We first built an e-commerce site for Coates Butchers in 2016, offering their most popular products for delivery nationally, including a Click and Collect service for local customers.

The online product range was extended in response to the COVID pandemic in 2020, and we redesigned the shop front in September of that year.
